In the 1990s, a group of us – all practitioners and teachers – got together every month to look at our cases. We were exploring holistic practice, which for us meant seeing the individual and his or her disease as a totality. This exploration was our effort to faithfully follow the founder of Homeopathy, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s directive to find and address the “Totality of Symptoms” that define the uniqueness of every case, rather than prescribing on a group of unconnected, disparate symptoms. Our goal was to find the core that connects the collection of symptoms as a complete whole.
Holism is a requirement for supporting health and living organisms
In learning to perceive our cases as “totalities,” we found that neither analysis nor synthesis were of any help. It required a way of seeing that was beyond a mechanical gathering of information and problem-solving methods. Science seeks cause and effect “mechanisms”, which works fine for machines and looking at an individual in a parts way, such as how to fix a broken leg, but it falls short when we desire to treat the organism as a whole. The “essence” of each individual is unique, each individual requires a unique approach, and each individual disease has a unique pathway in the return to health. Supporting the organism as a whole, with its unique requirements and expression, requires Holism: the evolved form of Mechanism.
Holism provides a much bigger container than Mechanism, taking into account all the circumstances and dynamics that contribute to the experience of the living individual. Relationships, social and economic settings, physical and emotional environment, perceptions and self-expectations have been shown by research to be important considerations in the development of chronic disease.
We are more than our skin encapsulated selves
Holism involves seeing the truth that we are much much more than our skin encapsulated selves. For example, it is now possible to physically measure the electromagnetic field of our heart and show that it extends way beyond our skin, and the fields that intertwine and intersect to create and maintain you reach far out into the cosmos.
“Evidence now supports the perspective that a subtle yet influential electromagnetic or “energetic” communication system operates just below our conscious level of awareness.”
Just one example is the research published by a group of scientists and doctors in California called HeartMath. They have attained incredible success improving the health and longevity of heart patients through decades of in-depth research with using biofeedback techniques to improve health. The biofeedback is produced using a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). Their experiments revealed that the magnetic fields produced by the heart are involved in energetic communication, and can be detected up to 3 feet away from the body, in all directions, using SQUID-based magnetometers. Evidence now supports the perspective that a subtle yet influential electromagnetic or “energetic” communication system operates just below our conscious level of awareness. We communicate through our hearts! People detect and come into resonance with their loved ones, and communicate their coherence through their hearts at great distances.
“Ancient practitioners understood that we are eddies in a flowing current of interconnecting force fields. It was that understanding that led them to develop Chinese medicine and acupuncture, Yoga and Ayurvedic Medicine.”
Each unique individual is a composite waveform created by evolutionary, natural, genetic generational, planetary and universal life energy patterns and flows. An “eddy” in the flow of the energy fields that make up the universe.
Ancient practitioners understood that we are eddies in a flowing current of interconnecting force fields. It was that understanding that led them to develop Chinese medicine and acupuncture, Yoga and Ayurvedic Medicine. They were able to map the energetic nodes precisely on the body and know exactly where to place the acupuncture needle to tune a particular life process. An accuracy that is as true today as it was many millennia ago. These traditional medicines are naturally “Holistic”, as is Traditional Western Medicine at its roots, 2500 years ago.
The Holism taught at MICH draws on the wealth of wisdom embodied in these ancient traditions, which is why the MICH logo is a hand drawn (and therefore not purely symmetrical) variation of an ancient and universal symbol called the triskele. The triskele or some form of it has been used in every culture for over 6000 years: from Malta to Newgrange, from ancient Greece to ancient Japan and Tibetan Buddhism. It is used to represent the wheel of Joy: or the Sanskrit word, lila, which means divine play, the play of creation, destruction, and re-creation, the folding and unfolding of the cosmos. Lila is both the delight and enjoyment of this moment, love. The MICH symbol represents this dynamic wholeness of life, it’s ever-changing and evolving nature represented by the spirals and the forward-moving character of the logo.
MICH was borne from the realization of what Holism really is and can bring to our lives and well-being. We also know and understand how we lost our naturally holistic perspective, and how we can get it back. Over the last ten years, MICH has developed a transformational holistic practitioner training program that involves holistic learning (not just with the mind, but with full body-mind experiences and exercises) and holistic living.

“By holding the space, guiding me and pushing my limits, MICH is enabling me to grow. It brings light to how being caught in my own belief system has led to disease. Awareness of unconscious reflexes is bringing wellness and lightness of being.”
