Update from Honduras – February 12, 2017

Update from Honduras: My first week was spent in Valle de Angeles where we did planning with the team and also had patients most days. There were follow-ups from previous missions, which is always great, so that we can see how the evolution is of the person. One example was a woman who had been treated over the past two years for long-standing bladder and kidney problems and who has had none of those since her last treatment in April. There were also complex and serious cases this week for whom I’m glad I will be back in Valle several times over the next to do their follow-up and any adjustment of remedies that may be needed. In the mean time, Tres Rosas, where the clinic is situated is as beautiful as ever with lush flowers. Dionisia, Jorge Mario and Yolanda worked so hard all week to help with the patients and the remedies. A little anecdote: All week I was driving back and forth in mototaxi between the clinic and the village of Valle itself (some 20 Minutes each way). One night I step in and my chauffeur Gustavo says he needs to drop someone off in the other direction. Okay, however this means going down (and later back up) a steep hill that we have walked before and I have always wondered how it would be in a vehicle. Well, now I know, not quite as scary as I believed, but a whole lot of extra time of being bumped and tossed around on the little bench. However, the great insight I got was on how generous the driver is offering free lifts to a woman with a child in her arms, an elderly man, another person who would have walked the distance because they don’t really have the money to take the mototaxi home, but who received a little moment of relief thanks to the kind-hearted Gustavo.
