Science of Awe

How moments of awe contribute to better immune response, lower inflammation and lower stress response

In a moment of wonder, when the ego is moved by the soul (Noume) it allows the cosmic light of life to penetrate deeply into the life force, imbuing it with warmth and life energy. These are intense moments of nourishment that have long-lasting effects on all parts of our organism and optimize its functioning.

When we allow ourselves to be moved by a sunset or a moonrise or the dance of light on the snow or the sea, we are allowing the cosmos to fully support us, wholly, naturally.

Awe awakens us

Awe awakens the mind. Research shows that awe awakens us from self-focus to collective interest, from isolation to integration, and breaks down division and us vs them thinking.

Moments of awe are moments of physiological coherence mediated by the heart. They open us up to the vastness of life and the cosmos. Awe awakens our curiosity, providing intellectual purpose. It promotes pro-social actions and the desire for community integration.

The ability to be in awe is one that has developed over millions of years. It is the epitome of evolution, the highest form in the human being. It is the true meaning of our lives; the true purpose of being human and being alive is to be “moved”. We do not have to add meaning to our lives; our lives are naturally meaningful. And uniquely so! Each one of us is moved by different things. But we all are, if we allow ourselves to be, naturally moved by life, nature and the wonder of the universe in which we live.

We have lined up some special gifts for you this season starting with a new solstice meditation, followed by a whole month of daily exercises to help you get into a state of awe at any moment, and all through the year. Each moment of awe can be a life changer. And practicing these exercises can change the way you live.

In the meantime, you can get prepared for the exercises by watching this 14-minute excursion into the ‘research of awe’.

What our Students Tell Us

With each exercise and mentorship session, I continue to gain new insight regarding how I move through life. Collectively, these experiences have offered glimpses into what true acceptance feels like (pretty amazing). I am truly grateful to the entire MICH community for helping me to see that I was actually resisting sacredness through expectation. I am very much looking forward to continuing the journey with you all!
